"Observer Effect" responds to the separation of immigrant families at the U.S. border in 2018. Through the physical act of cutting and reconstructing an image from a painting attributed to Leonardo da Vinci, a fence is introduced between mother and child. The act of separation becomes an integral part of the work, reframing the original composition and its meaning of family, connection, and separation.
